How do I become a referee?
It only takes two steps to become a referee, once complete you can be appointed to your first match!
Firstly, you'll need to participate in a course run by Rugby Australia or RugbyWA.
More details are listed here about our latest courses, otherwise contact us directly to arrange a time to complete a course. If you have sufficient numbers, we can run a course specifically for your club or school to get you out on in the middle together.
​Secondly, you'll need to register with us (WARURA) your local referee association. More details about how to register are listed below including the key contacts if you get stuck!
1. Enrol in a referee course
All our Referee Ready and Assistant Referee courses have been completed for the 2025 season. If you want to start your Match Official journey this season, please contact our Club Captain for alternative ways to get started.

2. Register with WARURA
Once you've taken a course, you'll subsequently be able to register with WARURA. You'll need to do this to get experience on the field.
Don't worry - we'll supply you with a whislte, red and yellow cards, and coaching and mentoring to get you going!
​Follow the step by step guide below to ensure you are registered with WARURA. ​

Log into your rugby Xplorer account (click here to login)

Click “More” then “Register”

Under PLAY RUGBY click “find a club”

Select your name, or “link a new person”

Search “WA Referees” click “WA Referees”

Select Role, Registration Type and Duration

Confirm your personal details and emergency contact

Success! You are registered and will receive an email to confirm your registration
